For system owners

Health Check

Your solar system is running, but is it running properly? I work out what it should be producing, compare it with what it actually is, find where the difference goes, and tell you what fixing it would be worth.

  • What your system should produce versus what it does
  • Whether the shortfall is the weather, a fault or normal ageing
  • Whether a warranty claim is available
  • Whether the maintenance you pay for is being done

Second Opinion

You have a quote for solar, a battery or both. Before you sign, I check whether it is the right size, whether the savings claims stand up, and what to go back and ask. Fixed fee, plain English, two working days.

  • Is the system sized to what you use, not just your roof?
  • Do the savings and payback claims stand up?
  • Does a battery make sense on your tariff?
  • Is the equipment and warranty what you want?

Project Support

Thinking about solar or a battery for your premises or your new house? I work for you, not the installer: I work out what you need, get like-for-like quotes, check the contract and make sure what gets built is what you paid for.

  • How much you actually use, hour by hour, and what size makes sense
  • Roof, structure and grid connection checked before anyone quotes
  • A common specification, then the quotes managed for you
  • Quotes compared on the same basis, in one table

Contract Check

Solar contracts are technical documents in legal clothing. I read the clauses a solicitor skips, such as how the performance promise is tested and what the maintenance excludes, and tell you in plain English what each one will do in practice.

  • Installation contracts and their performance promises
  • Maintenance agreements and what they leave out
  • Roof leases and free-solar or power purchase deals
  • Panel, inverter and battery warranties

Fees are fixed and confirmed in writing before any work starts. They exclude site visits unless stated; I will say in advance if one is needed. Apex is not VAT registered, so nothing is added.

What to expect

How it usually goes

No hourly rates, no surprises, and no report you cannot understand.

  1. A short callFifteen minutes, no charge, to work out whether I am the right person and what the real question is.
  2. A fixed fee in writingWhat I will look at, what you will get, when, and what it costs. Agreed before anything starts.
  3. The workYour quote, bills, contract or monitoring data and, where the question needs it, a visit.
  4. A report you can useWhat I found, what it is worth, and what to do next, written for you rather than for another engineer.
  5. A call to go through itIncluded. A report nobody understands is a report nobody acts on.
Who this is for

Houses, offices, workshops, farms and estates

Solar on a house roof, a battery in the garage, panels on a workshop or a barn, a field beside a farmhouse, several buildings on an estate, or a landlord's roof with a free-solar deal on the table. The same engineering, scaled to the job.

I am based in Glasgow and work across the UK. Most of this work is desk-based, so distance makes no difference.

Larger business, developer, lender or solicitor? Due diligence, owner's engineering, portfolio reviews and expert witness work are on the corporate site.

An electrical distribution board being checked

Not sure where to start? That is what the first call is for.

Most enquiries begin with a fifteen-minute conversation and a look at whatever you already have: a quote, a screenshot of your monitoring app, a contract, your bills. If the honest answer is that you do not need me, I will say so, and it costs you nothing.
